History

Shepshed and District Camera Club was formed in 1976. Prior to this a photography evening class had been running at Hind Leys Community College. When the tutor decided that he no longer wished to teach the course his students who wished to carry on pursuing their hobby decided to form a club affiliated to the college. Further members were recruited, a Committee elected and Shepshed and District Camera Club was in being.

In 2007 Shepshed and District Camera Club moved their headquarters to the Community Centre on Chanwood Road, Shepshed, where they have remained ever since.

In the early days activities centred around monochrome photography and printing. But as members became more experienced many became involved in colour printing and more recently in digital photography.

The club runs various activities. A series of competitions is run internally amongst the members and competitions are also held with local clubs and societies. In addition there are talks from local lecturers, practical nights, quizzes and social events.
